Title:
Land Use & Land Cover, 1976/1990, Idaho portion of the Bear River Basin

Abstract:
Land use and land cover developed for the Idaho portion of the Bear River Basin as part of the Bear River Compact. The Bear River Compact was established in 1958 to determine how Idaho, Utah, and Wyoming would distribute and use water from the Bear River. For more details see the following: Kramber, W.J., H. Anderson, M. Verdun, G. Austiguy, and B. Ondrechen, "Idaho's system for monitoring water use in the Bear River Basin", Geo Info Systems, May 1993, pp. 8-52.

Supplemental information:
Procedures_Used:
1. USGS 1:24,000-scale orthophotoquads (OQs) used as base maps.
2. 1976 1:120,000-scale color infrared (CIR) aerial photographs were used
to develop the land use and land cover.
3. Mylar overlays were taped to the OQs and land use and land cover
polygons were drawn on the mylar while interpreting the 1:120,000-scale
CIR aerial photographs.
4. Land use changes between 1976 and 1990, for the Central Division, were
interpreted from USDA ASCS 35mm color aerial slides collected the summer
of 1990. These slides were projected onto the OQs and changes were
drawn on the mylar overlays.
5. The land use and land cover interpretation was verified with the
staff and/or directors of the USDA ASCS offices for Bear Lake, Franklin,
Oneida, and Caribou counties. The district 11 watermaster also reviewed
the maps. Areas of uncertainty were visited in the field.
6. Land use and land cover boundaries were manually digitized from the
mylar overlays. Preliminary maps were plotted and checked for accuracy.
Edits were made and final plots were produced at 1:100,000-scale.
7. Attributes for landuse:

Reviews_Applied_to_Data:
The .PAT was checked for accuracy. Plots were produced to verify the land
use and land cover mapping both by the USDA ASCS field offices and by
Idaho Department of Water Resources analysts.
