Kootenai County Herd Districts

Frequently-asked questions:

What does this data set describe?

Title:
Kootenai County Herd Districts

Abstract:
This theme depicts Herd Districts in Kootenai County. Herd Districts are areas of closed range (vs. open range) created by the Board of County Commissioners upon petition of resident land owners. Within these closed range districts, animal owners are required to keep animals fenced.

Supplemental information:
This theme was prepared from an old herd district map kept on file in the Board of County Commissioners office. Where book and page of recording information was available, the respective polygons were attributed accordingly. It should be noted that this theme has not been verified as being a complete and accurate compilation of valid Herd Districts, it is only as accurate as the map it was developed from. Also, the absence of a herd district does not constitute open range. Most incorporated areas have certain applicable laws and regulations regarding the fencing of animals within corporate limits.
